The sweeping hills and emerald hedgerows seem to dance in the pale Irish sun. Home after far too long, Ginny takes a deep breath and tries to shake off the past. She’s hidden the truth for years. And when Ruari looks at her, his long lashes shading his green eyes, she knows she can’t reveal it now. Her secret would destroy him, as much as it would her…

Loosely set in the same Roone Bay area as The Irish Key, with some of the characters from the previous book playing cameo parts, this is a standalone tale that doesn’t rely on the reader having read the previous books. I loved the idea of an enemies to lovers scenario, in which the protagonists had to work through deep-seated prejudices from the past in order to allow their natural friendship to develop into something more.
I live in a rural area in West Cork, surrounded by farming folk, and although there is a huge sense of community spirit, as you might imagine there are the normal jealousies and hatreds between individuals, the reasons for which have sometimes been lost to posterity. As well as a mystery surrounding the hero and heroine’s great-grandparents, I introduced the concept of an unspoken crisis from their more recent past to lend an added level of conflict to the tale.
