BETWEEN THE COVERS
When Deirdre and her father rescue two young boys living rough in a city park, they think they’re doing a good deed. But nothing is ever simple in Dee’s world—not anymore. As they try to uncover the truth behind the boys' flight from foster care, a darker, more sinister thread begins to unravel. The more Dee digs, the more danger she exposes—not just for herself, but for everyone she loves. Fresh from saving her vigilante father from the FBI, Deirdre barely has time to breathe before a new threat emerges: the man she calls "the vampire dude" has wormed his way into her sister’s home, hiding in plain sight. She doesn’t know what he wants—but she knows he’s dangerous. And this time, she’s on her own. Forced to operate outside the law, and facing enemies who play dirty, Deirdre must protect two traumatized boys, outsmart a manipulative predator, and defend her family—all while figuring out who she can trust. She’s no superhero. Just a girl with grit, sarcasm, and a sense of justice that won’t quit. But in a world where the system fails the most vulnerable, sometimes it takes someone ordinary to do the extraordinary. …a fast-paced, character-driven thriller about trust, survival, and the high cost of doing what’s right.
IN READERS’ WORDS
★★★★★ Excellent!
'Holy Moly!! Talk about suspense. I love this third instalment. Talking about abuse, abduction, and pedophiles, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Not an easy subject to tackle, but Chris does an excellent job with the detail and her characters bring real life to the pages. Deidre and her dad bring home two boys that are living in the local park, but something seems off. The danger is heating up for Dee’s sister, her dad and her new charges, and it is up to Deidre to come up with a way out.'
★★★★★ This series just gets better and better!
'The third book in the series does not disappoint. I love that the characters have evolved over the course of the 3 books. In the beginning, Deirdre is woefully unprepared to take on her new role protecting children who have fallen through the cracks. The pedophile rings see her as a threat and the Feds see her as a dangerous vigilante. Over time she’s learned how to act on her new calling and survive to fight another day. The cases she encounters open up more questions than answers. Why do some abused children grow up with empathy, while some want to inflict their pain on others? Why do some parents want their child’s life to be everything it can be, while others want to force their failed dreams on their children? This is a thought-provoking study of human nature complete with a heart pounding ending. It kept me up all night.'
★★★★★ Keep on Fighting!
'Dee is finally, albeit with reserve, getting into the reality of saving children from pedophiles and the rings they run. For all that Dee and her father do to stop children from being abused there are always more. I know this is a work of fiction but there is a lot of truth to this story. Children have become a commodity. It is a disgusting thought but very real. This author writes in a way that does not promote vigilantism but if the perpetrator dies in the fight, then that’s one less person hurting children. I have really enjoyed this series. I feel like Dee, her father and Amy are friends. Friends that would inspire loyalty.'
★★★★★ Outstanding
'I believe that Chris Lewando has tackled a very difficult subject. Children are innocent and Deidre and her dad work outside the law to save them. Book 3 has so much emotion… fear, child abuse, foster home accusations, I could not put the book down. My heart broke for Mikey and little Josh. This fast action thriller is a fantastic book and I think it would make an outstanding movie. The Loyalty of Children should be on everyone's reading list.'
★★★★★ Immersive
'With building suspense and well-rounded characters, Dee joins her father in the saving of children being used for the pleasure of pedophiles. Dee is on the run from one kingpin who wants to kill her and her entire family, tying up loose ends. The pages can't turn fast enough as the action and the threat of death become more real as Dee finally gets to have one last chance of eliminating this threat to her and her family. And the face-off is four to one… It is possible to read this as a standalone novel, but there are brief references to previous action, so the author recommends that the series be read in order.'
