NOTES FROM A LIFE IN IRELAND
New Living Room
The first image is the original room before we made it habitable. It was used as a kitchen for several years while the extension was being built. The second image is of the room after the kitchen units all moved out into the new kitchen.

The first things was to dismantle the Rayburn, which was now redundant. A new log burner has been purchses, and it sitting on a pallet to the right.

We decided to use the same tiles we used in the hall, and got going... only like all the jobs in this house, it wasn't straightforward. The concrete floor had been tipped on a bed of natural rock packed out with soil. Over the years the soil has washed away leaving a thin skim of concrete over hollow gaps. As we worked around the room with the tiles we had to dig out the edges of the floor, backfill with thick concrete and let that dry before finishing the tiling.

Finally the tiling was finished and the new woodburner, which weight a ton, was put into place.
